Swedish Audit Office Proposes New Gambling Legislative Framework
The Swedish National Audit Office Riksrevisionens pointed out that Sweden ‘s current online gambling legislative framework is not up to standard. It needs to be regulated properly and it also needs a newly-regulated market.
This will include a transparent licencing system and mechanisms that must weed-out illegal internet gambling operations. In addition, the audit office also demanded a clear framework with regard to marketing and advertising.
The audit indicated that the market’s gross sales yielded a revenue of SEK 42 billion in 2025. This figure has gone up by 16% between 2003 and 2025. Auditor General of Riksrevisionens, Claes Norgren said that the Swedish Government must launch a coordinated effort that addresses gambling regulations and develop the necessary framework that combats problem gambling and gambling addiction.
